Palmerston Cup: after last week's excitement we came to earth with a bump losing to current holders Eastleigh Rail in the semi final. We wish them well next week in the final against Priory, whilst we're in the 3/4 place play off against Lee-on-the-Solent.

President's Shield: the last of the indoor all day competitions was won by Jenny Armstrong, Norman Chatfield, Andy Mintram and Audrey Moore. They defeated Ken Balchin, Sue Edgington, Howard Felgate and Bill Houlton by 4-2 shots in a very tight final. With very many thanks to Helen Chew and Jean Ellis who organised proceedings. Just the finals of the knock out competitions and triples leagues play off to go now - 14 and 15 March - dates for the diary. Watch this space towards the end of February for the schedule after all the semi finals have been played - details under Competitions tab.

S&D women: the fixtures are out (click here to see, we're in the Rinks A and Triples B leagues), the availability sheet is up and there's a coffee morning at Pirrie Park on Wednesday 18 March to look forward to. We're contributing a 'Where's the Jack? competition and Chris Robinson is running the books and jigsaw stall (any left overs to Oxfam) as part of the fun. Admission is 50p (in advance or on the door) and that includes a free cuppa and entry into the prize draw. Get your mates organised and come along, or get them to buy you a ticket to add to the overall fundraising.

Indoor triples leagues: we're back on track. The matches unfinished on 31 January have now been played, so it's now finger chewing time as we head into the last couple of rounds of matches.

200 club: February's winner is Chris Brett. And they are after your money for the next round of shares.

'azard from Adie: his email account has been hacked (again!). Please ignore all recent messages and delete without opening.

A word from our Competitions Co-ordinator: please click here to read David's (Andrews) message about withdrawing from competitions.

Palmerston Cup: a crazy, crazy - but wonderous - result in the B team's quarter final against Banister Park. They lost significantly in two of the three triples matches (11-23 and 13-32) but won hugely in the third (36-4) to win by just one shot to secure a place in the semi final (and at least £100 prize money for the club!). It will be against current cup holders Eastleigh Rail next Sunday evening, 19 February. So the diary looks like President's Shield at the club all day, then zip off to Palmerston to lend support. Busy, busy, busy!

Indoor friendly matches: the next batch of selections have just been released and are available under Friendly matches tab.

President's Shield: all the details for this mixed rinks competition to be played next Sunday (16 February) are now available under the Competitions tab. Be sure to notify the organisers (Helen Chew and Jean Ellis) straightaway if you have been selected for a team but can't play.

Friday night triples league table: ooops! The table wasn't quite correct, but it is now. Apologies.

Indoor knock out competitions: lastest draws available under the Competitions tab. Getting near crunch time!

S&DWBA league fixtures: were published today - go to if you would like a peek. We're in the rinks A and triples B leagues

Whoa - we're doing well! David and Lesley Andrews playing with two substitutes have gotten themselves into the final after 6 games. Hurst, Batty, Fisher and Balchin in one part of the draw lost by just one shot in their quarter final with various combos: Brett, Booth and Baileys, the Mosses and Travers' also holding their own. Watch this space ...and Gallery later!

Happy new year!: a few New Year resolutions for everyone

- cannot play, then call: you have booked to play but cannot turn up, phone the club house (01489 891871) to have your name removed from the booking sheet so that someone else can play;

- be kind to Keith (Waller): to prevent him from being called out about security - please study the instructions about setting (and resetting, if necessary) the alarm as outlined in Judith's recent email, or calling Keith from the club house if you get into a muddle. Plus always sign in and out;

- step forward to help: volunteers are always needed and very welcome. The latest are Helen Chew and Jean Ellis (President's Shield competition) and Nick Hayes and Steve Fisher (Smith Plate competition). David Andrews, our competitions co-ordinator, is still wanting a couple of organisers for the Penniall Plate on 15 August. More generally, if you have other talents to offer please contact Judith Moss, our secretary, who will be glad to figure out how they can be put to good use;

- recycle: milk bottle tops (washed, of course!) - the large plastic tube by the kitchen door - proceeds to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and used postage stamps (box by the bar) - proceeds to Naomi House (President's charity this year). Space is a bit tight for donations of more books, jigsaws and bowls stuff (clothes, shoes, etc.) but as soon as the mats are up for the outdoor season (only about 100 days to wait!) bring them along - others will have the benefit of them and the proceeds go to the club.

Thank you to all who have helped in the past and continue to do so.

Winter solstice and Christmas!: The days will be getting longer now and it's Christmas! Have fun everyone.

December 200 club: this month's winner was Malcolm Croucher.

John Linter: Norman (Chatfield) conducted John's funeral this afternoon, click here if you would like to see the Order of Service. Our thoughts are with all those saddened by his passing, especially Betty.
